Some may be protected by a clear coat, while others may not, making them prone to oxidation. Periodic polishing is typically all it takes to maintain a beautiful finish. Painted wheels are available in many different colors, with silver and black being among the most common. These wheels are usually protected with a clear coat to enhance durability upon exposure to road elements. There are also some very esoteric custom rims which may incorporate multiple design features mentioned above, machined elements or even airbrushed graphics, truly making them more akin to artwork than just wheels in overall appearance.
